Susan Diab, ‘Palimpself: a Sculptural Investigation into Materiality in the Works of Annie Ernaux’

The exhibition ‘Palimpself: a sculptural investigation into materiality in the works of Annie Ernaux’ draws on collaboration between academics Elise Hugueny-Léger and Fabien Arribert-Narce and visual artist Susan Diab to create new artwork exploring the relationship between language, memory and materiality in the works of Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux. Its launch will coincide with the first English-speaking conference on Ernaux’s works, taking place in Edinburgh and St Andrews 3-5 October 2024.

The exhibition was opened in the Byre Theatre on 2 October 2024, and will run until 28 October.

Language Diversity and Minority Languages in the School of Modern Languages

This project seeks to highlight the language diversity in the School of Modern Languages by presenting some of the languages spoken by members of our school in a poster exhibition displayed in the Buchanan Building of the University: Bosnian, Brianzoeu, Catalan, Esperanto, Galician, Hasawi Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Hindi, Hokkien, Irish, Janoubi (Saudi) Arabic, Ladin, Lithuanian, Mantuàn, Punjabi, Scots, Scottish Gaelic, Shanghainese, Surzhyk, Swiss German, Syrian Arabic, Ukrainian and West Rumelian Turkish. The exhibition showcases several lesser-known and minority languages. This initiative contributes to the School’s commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

The exhibition is now open in the Buchanan building, Union Street.
